Our 2023 Genesis GV70 electrified, the first one to hit the road in Ottawa, on April 2023, presently has a little over 20,000 km. We have recently been experiencing difficulty connecting the charging cable to the vehicle as this task requires more and more strength and a great deal of fiddling around to properly secure it to the vehicle so as to allow the charging to commence. This was not the case until a few weeks ago. Plugging the charger was child’s play. But now, it requires the strength of a gorilla and the finesse of a ballerina to perform this task, as the process becomes one akin to the Mission Impossible series. Using chargers from FLO, IVY, etc presents no such challenges, pointing to the Genesis cable being the issue. That being said , the service manager, Justin, at the Ottawa Genesis Dealership, informed me this morning that Genesis will not replace said charging cable because it can still eventually be connected notwithstanding a struggle. My wife can no longer connect the charger to the vehicle and I am not far off from finding myself in the same situation. This is completely inacceptable. Genesis banks on convincing prospective customers to purchase their products by touting not only the product quality , the guarantee’s and especially its home services. A word to the wise : good luck when things stop working as they are meant to be! And finally, where is the Genesis representative that can look into these issues to speedily resolve them, making it a win win for both the customer and for Genesis in promoting and saving its reputation? Does not even deserve 1 star. Bought my car in 2021 really hoping to love my GV80 and stick with the brand. The headlights on their cars have a well known quality issue leading to condensation in them and causing them to fail. And when I mean fail, everything goes including DLRs and front and side signal markers (major safety flaw). Both headlights were placed under warranty in 2023 and 2024 and the same issue occured recently in 2025 but this time both failed at the same time. Genesis do not take this issue seriously (they should have recalled and replaced with a better quality headlight - especially for a premium car) and although its a well known issue on forums and online discussion boards, they still don't take accountability. They rejected my claim as it was 7k over the mileage, but still within 5 years. Headlights should not need to be replaced TWICE in 5 years. That means there is something clearly wrong with the part itself. Luckily my dealership (Genesis Maple) did the honest and right thing to help me out when the Genesis Canada did nothing and brushed all liability on to me. I WILL NEVER BUY OR RECOMMEND GENESIS TO ANYONE AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE. I have had BMWs, Saabs, Mercs and we even have Tesla which has way better reliability and build quality than this company.
I bought a GV70 from Michael Wu at Kelowna Genesis. I have put 1000 km on the vehicle and I’ve had nothing but problems and he has been absolutely useless. He did not prepare my car well. My advice would be to stay far away from him.
110 days is how long I’ve been waiting for a wiper motor for my 2017 Genesis G80 I’ll Genesis says is a month delay then when the part does not come another month. Then 2 weeks to give me false hope, and no no answers from Genesis Canada. What is this It’s a wiper motor for my car I need it, I have been patient again 110 days. Car rentals, Ubers lost time at work you required by law to provide essential parts in a reasonable delay. Come up with a solution other than tellin me another 2 weeks or 1 month or whatever answer you give that is made up. Be better and do something productive.
I want to start off by saying this review is nothing against my GV70, nor the dealership (Yorkdale) that I have been dealing with, but directly towards Genesis Canada and Roadside Assistance for their lousy service. In February our car got stuck in the snow around 150km away from our home so we contacted Genesis Roadside Assistance who sent a CAA tow truck. The tow truck successfully got us out of the snow. However, the next day, we drove back home and noticed that there was an issue with the back wheel and the car felt unsafe to drive. At this point we were in the middle of nowhere and called Roadside Assistance back and told them that the tow truck they sent damaged the car to the point where I didn't feel safe to drive. They said the only thing they could do was to take the car to closest dealership which was CLOSED and over 100km away from my house! I explained that their service was responsible for the damage to the car and that it was freezing outside and I mentioned I had two young kids in the car and they basically said TOO BAD! I asked if they could at least help with alternative arrangements and that I would be happy to be reimbursed later and they still REFUSED! I asked to speak to a manager and they again REFUSED! So I felt there was no other option but to drive the car back home extremely slowly, only to find out later how unsafe that actually was. Genesis confirmed that the damage was indeed caused by the tow truck. It took around 7 weeks to get the part that was needed for the repair and they provided a loaner in the meantime. I demanded that they play back the call I had with Roadside assistance so they could see how awful it was, but they refused to confirm whether they would do so. They were unwilling to provide any sort of compensation for this ordeal, despite several requests. Moral of the story, Genesis claims to be a luxury brand but they do not offer anything near a luxury service. I highly doubt I would have received the same type of lousy service from Mercedes, Lexus, etc.
Purchased a G80 from your Mississauga dealer January 10th 25 was not a pleasant experience, test car was unwashed, GM was aggressive and rude, e mail request for information on Genesis connect 4 days later still no reply. Overall both my wife & i felt the treatment was very uncaring & uncomfortable. Currently working with your Kitchener dealer
My 2021 Genesis G80 3.5T is a garbage, and the Genesis Canada's response to my recent rental reimbursement request (due to the car not being able to be driven because of the fourth issue listed below) is disapponting. 1) the battery died in the first week of ownership. They didnt replace the battery in the first time. They returned my car after an overnight charging. They replaced the battery when the battery died again in less than a month. 2) Engine light on due to the faulty thermal management module (it took 4 months total to figure out the cause and replace the parts) 3) Coolant reservoir leak 4) Engine light on and the limp mode, due to the faulty ECU, spark plugs, and injectors (it took 2.5 weeks to replace the parts and fix this) 5) limp mode again (but no engine light on) due to unknown reason. Genesis Vancouver currently has my G80 and i am currently driving a loaner vehicle. I purchased the 2021 G80 because of my positive experience with my previous 2014 Hyundai Genesis Sedan. But now I really regret for spending a huge amount of money to buy a garbage. People, plz stay away from Genesis.
