The library overall is fairly quiet and spacious during the times that I've been there when I need to get work done. I also strongly believe that libraries are valuable to our local community, while also providing invaluable resources that aren't easily accessible to everyone. However, a few months ago, I received a call regarding a library item that was checked out under my account that was found outside at an intersection with water damage and a missing disc. When I arrived at the library, I explained that I returned it in a drop box and had no idea how it ended up outside at an intersection. However, despite my explanation, the borrower services clerks only seemed interested in providing scenarios for how it could have ended up on the side of a road... like maybe it fell out of my bag despite me never being in that area. One employee (snarkily) said, "Oh well we can't really prove that you returned it." Thankfully they ended up waiving the fee, but I did not appreciate how I was being spoken to, and they suggested I keep a return receipt in case, but that's not possible if I only use the manual return bin.... Despite all that, still go out and support your local libraries!

Great library, staff and cleanliness not so great. If you’re a white person you will be treated like Royalty, if not you will be disrespected, judged for being human. If you’re not confident try to speak up and ask to be treated with respect. Really wish that they clean the couches and furniture in here.

People have loud (!), long, and often TOTALLY IRRELEVANT conversations with the librarians, far too loudly, for too long (ie. long life stories, etc) Just on and on. And even the librarians, just in talking to each other, seem unconcerned about keeping the noise level down.. Please see Heidi's review before me, a year ago. It's not just me. Sometimes the librarians ENCOURAGE IT, keep the conversation going, and going, when it begins tapering off. When both the librarians' and the patrons' voices are booming across the floor so even at the other end one can hear it, and cannot muffle it out even by covering one's ears....I'm sorry but that IS loud. It's not just me -- my dad has commented on this too, though he doesn't normally mind a certain level of noise. I now know the life stories of strangers,, instead of being able to focus on studying... Thanks! Some folk should start a country club, and get their socializing needs out that way. I've used libraries ALL OVER the world-- and within several cities in this province, including others in Markham... I do have many libraries to compare against. I NEVER rate any place poorly, check my other reviews.... this is the first time I feel compelled to. Positives: very tidy, organized well, a pleasant setting and a lovely park outside for parents to venture out with kids. Upstairs is better than downstairs if you want to be able to read in peace.

Makan village library is my favorite place to go. It’s beautiful, quiet and clean. I love to choose an interesting book and a comfortable corner on the second floor, then sit down and read it for hours. Time goes fast. It is the best way to learn something and enjoy life for all ages.

This library offers a serene and quiet environment, perfect for reading or studying. The extensive collection spans various genres, ensuring there's something for every reader. The staff are exceptionally helpful and always ready to assist with any inquiries. I highly recommend visiting this library for a peaceful and enriching experience.
