Customer service doesn’t just fall short here, it’s completely absent. The auntie working seems outright miserable and irritated at anyone who walks in. Buying pork jerky shouldn’t feel like pleading, but that’s exactly what it felt like.
The older lady—who I assume is the owner—was very rude and didn’t seem willing to help. I asked her to warm it up (which the previous owner always did), but she refused. She also gave me an unfriendly look when I asked to have it cut into pieces. Most importantly, the food tastes really bad now—very salty yet somehow tasteless. I remember it used to be very good. Such a disappointment.

If I could, I would give this place zero stars. I purchased beef jerky yesterday, but the lady (possibly the owner) gave me pork that had been placed in the beef jerky section. It didn’t seem like an honest mistake—I suspect she intentionally mixed pork into the beef section. I only realized this after I got home and tried it. To make matters worse, she had an attitude and threw the packed paper bag onto the counter, as if I were begging for food—even though she knew I was a paying customer.
I tried this for the first time last weekend and loved it. The spicy flavor beef and pork were my fav, and the pepper and seaweed were a close second. I went back this weekend and got 4 more slices. Its perfect snack size and pretty easy to eat while you shop. If you buy 4, you can pay with credit. Each slice is weighted, and then you pay per weight, I paid around $21 for 4.
GREAT TASTE, EXCELLENT SERVICE: We had a family trip to Toronto last month and tried their pork jerky. It was so delicious that we decided to buy a bunch home as souvenirs. Some of our family members wanted more (because they're so delicious), so we ordered online. When the package came, it turned out to be the wrong products. We reached out to them, and they immediately apologized. They also arranged to send us a new order at no cost to us the next day (on a Sunday). My husband and I were so impressed by how sincere this small family business was. Their jerky is tender, juicy and flavourful, but it's how they treat their customers that win us over. We will continue ordering from them online (or visit their store the next time we will be in Toronto). We highly recommend New Oriental Recipes to everyone.
Very tasty Chinese style pork and beef jerky. They have some variety of different flavours including low sugar options. Slices are sold by weight but expect approximately $5 for a slice.
