It's after 3 weeks of retrospection and a lot of advice from my friends that I've decided to write this review. I've never written a Google review in my life, usually finding it pointless, but I want to share this experience with you so that it doesn't happen to others. I had made an appointment with Chris Poon on April 20 at 3 p.m. to have my hair lightened. I gave a $50 deposit, bringing my bill to $200. I arrived on time, and already Chris was greeting me rather coldly. Anyway, you know how haughty hairstylists can be sometimes. He explains that, based on photos I show, I'd rather have a balayage, something I've always done, and for which I accept. On the website and thanks to my memory, I assume that balayage is listed at $350+, which is expensive, but I'm used to it, I go once a year and that's fine with me. My hair is in relatively good health, yet Chris keeps telling me how damaged and dirty my hair is, taking photos of my head / skull without my consent and showing them to me several times-it's a bit humiliating for me, who just wanted to have a good time at the hairdresser's and get some blonde highlights... Anyway... Chris doesn't give me any warning of the process, nor does he inform me of the costs that what he's starting to do will incur on my bill and, above all, the time he decides to spend on it. Spoiler alert: my appointment lasted 6h30. I left the salon at past 9:30 pm. I was extremely stupid but also, it has to be said, intimidated not to stop him, to ask him why, after already 5 hours, it was taking so long. Chris didn't ask for my consent, didn't inform me at all of how long it was going to take, and of course that this was going to be reflected in the bill, which came to, brace yourself, $577 taxes included (plus the $50 deposit paid). And without tips of course. Looking back, I feel stupid for not doing anything about it at the time, but I decided to trust, which was a big mistake! I find it simply outrageous. The result was good, but tbh, nothing different from my other address in Vancouver, or even Paris! I paid because I would never dare not pay someone for their work. With all due respect, I'll never go there again!
During the holiday season I booked with Chris Poon, first time visit. I am writing this review to prepare others for what might come their way as I was critiqued and criticized by Chris throughout the whole appointment. He asked me how often I wash my hair and when I told him every 2 days, he made a face and said you should wash it every day.... You know for cleanliness. I was really taken aback from the comment but it did not stop there, he pointed to a part of my hair that had a wavy spot in it and said see here you could of spent some time and flat ironed that. I have never been talked to like this from any hairstylist and did not know I needed to look like I was arriving for a modelling job? He judged the heck out of me making the comment how I should be washing my hair for basic cleanliness every day twice and looked for all the things he could point out and comment on. He judged me so hard even giving me basic child like instructions on how to brush my hair and telling me I need to spend more time on styling. I do style my hair but not for a hair appointment as it's just going to get washed out. This isn't culturally appropriate or professional. I would hate for someone who isn't feeling their best to go in here and get picked apart like I was.
