Jackets look great online but wanted to try them in person before making a decision. Unfortunately, didn’t realize it was by appointment only. Drove 45 min but that’s my bad. Sharing that info here in case someone makes the same mistake as me!
My experience with Master Supply Co. has been nothing short of stellar. They exceeded my expectations at every step of the way. The first thing that struck me is how customer centric they are. They really care. I live out of town and wanted a custom fit jacket. Lane agreed to meeting with me outside business hours while I was traveling to Toronto. While getting measured, the experience was out of this world, he is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. We took as much time as was necessary. When I received the product, I was impressed by the quality, fit and finish. The price is extremely fair. The jacket is overbuilt and feels like armor, while making a fashion statement when I wear it. This level of service is very rare. Master Supply Co. really puts their customers first. Even though it was custom and coming from overseas, it took days (not weeks) from the moment I passed the order to when the custom jacket was delivered. That’s fast by any standards.
In an age where the majority of garments seem to aspire less to the dignity of clothing than to the disposability of packaging, encountering the leather jackets of Master Supply Co. is something of an epistemological event. One is confronted not merely with a product, but with an argument—implicit, to be sure, but no less insistent for that—about what it means to wear something that expects, and indeed compels, its wearer to rise to the occasion. The Field Jacket, for instance, does not flatter in the manner of synthetic blends or engineered silhouettes whose aim is to simulate an abstract ‘fit.’ It instead demands a more reciprocal arrangement, whereby the wearer gradually conforms to the jacket’s contours, as if entering into a tacit agreement not unlike that between a reader and a particularly recalcitrant text. It is stiff, at first—unyielding, even—but it softens in time, acquiring creases, folds, and impressions that testify not to wear-and-tear but to lived relation. If the jacket begins by resisting you, it ends by remembering you. Likewise, the Switchback does not market itself with the effusive jargon of lifestyle branding but offers, in its place, something approximating poise—an unassuming confidence rooted not in novelty or trend but in proportion, material, and the kind of craftsmanship that is now so rare as to feel almost contraband. The lining is thoughtful, the collar unfussy, and the leather itself possesses that rare quality of being thick without being thuggish, firm without being theatrical. Yet perhaps the greatest astonishment lies in the experience of speaking with Josh and the others behind Master Supply Co., who appear to inhabit a cultural niche long thought extinct: that of the independent craftsman who not only understands the materials at hand but takes a kind of quiet, unadvertised pleasure in sharing that understanding. There is no pressure to buy, no gestural performance of hospitality, only a striking and—to this reviewer, at least—disarming earnestness, as if one’s interest in leather goods were a matter worth taking seriously. It bears mentioning, of course, that these jackets are not inexpensive; but to dwell on cost alone is rather like assessing a novel by its page count. What one pays for is not luxury, understood in its usual, decadent register, but a different kind of value altogether—one rooted in longevity, in process, in the slow accumulation of character. These are not garments so much as future heirlooms, and to wear them is to participate in an economy of care that is, in the present climate, nothing short of radical.
I am a regular customer, recently I bought two ranger jackets, one for me obviously and one for a dear friend of mine who as soon as he saw the material, he immediately fell in love with the model!! What can I say, for anything they are incredibly helpful, kind, punctual, I can't find any flaws!! As for the quality of the material, they are the kind of things you buy that really last a lifetime!!
The customer service tells you everything you need to know. I was unsure about sizing and wanted to ask some questions prior to making my order. I received a thorough response within minutes of sending my question which helped me decide what to order. The jacket itself looks even more amazing in person, and the quality is top notch along with the attention to detail. I can’t wait until it gets cold again so I can wear it out. They also offer custom sizing options which is a huge plus. Josh spent a ton of time with me to make sure I was happy with the fit. I would highly recommend!
I really like this company. They produce great designs, use top quality materials and maintain a customer service ethos the likes of which doesn’t otherwise exist. I purchased two jackets from Master Supply - the hardline and the green field jacket. The hardline is no joke. For those of you who have been yearning to have an antagonistic relationship with a garment, this is the jacket for you. Using a veg tanned leather, it is remarkably stiff - I call it “the body cast”. You have to fight battles through significant wear to tame it. But once the war is over and the PTSD subsides, I’ll be looking forward to what has been promised - a more supple feel, conforming to my body and with significant color from the tea core emerging through. On the other side of the relationship spectrum, the field jacket is your friend from the beginning. Easy to wear and while there are many colors/versions, the green they selected is the perfect shade. Wasn’t intending to buy a second jacket until I saw this one. On to customer service. I worked with Josh extensively through my Master Supply journey. The standard sizes of neither jacket seemed to work particularly well for me. Josh, upon seeing a few photos I sent over wearing the jackets offered to facilitate their return and have customized jackets produced to ensure a perfect fit - AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. I would have gladly paid a separate fee for such a service and be elated that the option was even available. But no, Josh told me that Master Supply is happy to help its customers in these situations. I received the customized jackets in record time and they fit perfectly. For anyone who has a hard time fitting in standard sizes, I would get my orders in quickly before these quirky Canadians figure out that this level of free service isn’t economic. Working with Josh was really great. He was incredibly insightful, informative and responsive. I remember sending him emails at 11pm on a Friday night with his responses coming back within minutes. I recall thinking “Christ Josh, just because I don’t have a life, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t! Responses to my ridiculous jacket musings could certainly wait until Monday.” As you can tell, I’m very impressed by this team and what they have created in this small business. Great products, great value, great service. Keep it up.
Purchased a “gold rush” jacket. The quality is superb and it is now my favorite leather jacket. The customer service is also the best. Highly recommending!
