Came to Fish With You at First Markham Place while my friend and I were deciding where to eat, and we ended up giving this place a try. I ordered the scallion pickled cabbage fish soup (mild spice) and my friend went with the Laotan boiled fish, which had a bit more heat. The fish slices were fresh with a nice bouncy texture, and they came with vermicelli and a decent amount of pickled veggies. The bowls looked huge at first, but they’re actually quite wide and shallow, so the amount of soup was a bit less than expected — especially for a fish soup spot. Flavour-wise though, the broth was solid and comforting. We also ordered the Taiwanese sausage and glutinous rice cake, which were nice for sharing. One thing I liked was the self-serve rice station with both white rice and multigrain rice. The rice cookers are lined up at the front with signs showing when a fresh batch is cooking, which is a nice touch. Overall, a casual spot for sauerkraut fish with good flavours. I’d come back again, but would love to see a bit more broth in the bowls.
Heidi praised the owner for the super good service. I use Uber 8 to order the promotion item with a free deep fried chicken, and I always forgot to add the free item. Call Uber and they refuse to cancel my order but the owner give me back the free item without all the hassle and get me a free drink while waiting. Exception !
The dishes here are flavorful and come in good portions, all for a very reasonable price. A huge highlight for me is the unlimited rice station. I love that they offer both plain white and multigrain rice. I usually mix the two, and it pairs perfectly with the dishes. The fish is always good, but I also really enjoy their beef dish. One of my family's go to spots.
My partner brought me here and it was really good. He knew that I liked sauerkraut fish so he said this was his favourite spot. I thought the soup base was really good, the toppings were really good, and the snakehead fish was so soft! I’ve been to some places where I actually didn’t enjoy the snakehead fish because you could taste that it wasn’t super fresh. But it wasn’t the case for this place. We finished up the bowl. The rice here is also unlimited and it’s actually pretty good rice. I didn’t think I’d say this about rice, but overall really decent spot!
Pretty delicious meal, my personal favourite is the purple rice, the flavour is special compared with plain rice. We arent fans of spicy foods, and the pickled fish & coconut option were spice levels we can still enjoy. The side dishes were great for kiddos. Something for everyone in the fam! Price wise, it came to about $60 which was a nudge expensive for the portion size.
I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. I visited on a Tuesday evening , it wasn’t very busy and many tables were empty. The waitress assigned me to a seat in the middle, and when I asked to sit at a side table, she refused with a few excuses. After placing my order, she returned to confirm whether I really wanted a small side dish. That felt unusual, since normally there’s no need to reconfirm unless something is unavailable. Later, I noticed a small sign on the table saying customers could get a free side dish by downloading the restaurant’s app. Then I understood why she asked again — but she never mentioned that promotion to me. Overall, I didn’t feel treated with courtesy or respect. I still paid the full price including the side dish, and paid a tip - it's for another waitress who was kind and attentive. Unfortunately, my experience with the first server left a poor impression, so I’m giving this restaurant 2 stars.
I tried the Princess’s Tomato Fish here and it was absolutely delicious! The soup was rich, flavorful, and full of fresh ingredients like tender fish slices, tofu skin, and vegetables, all perfectly balanced with the tangy tomato broth. The portion size is generous. One main dish can easily be shared between two people. I also liked the self-service rice option, which made the meal even more satisfying.
