Good food but need improvement of turn around time. Wait is so long for 1 serving of food. Worth the wait? No you better off waiting at the bbq spot next door.
Cash only. I’m not sure when it changed, but now they only accept cash—and the nearby ATM isn’t working. If you don’t cash, you can’t order. Very rude.
We have visited this food court many times but only just noticed there's a jianbing stall. Decided to try the plain mung bean version — the flavor was decent, but it felt like they were a bit light on the scallions and other fillings. The person taking orders came across as a bit unfriendly and sounded quite grumpy. There also seemed to be some miscommunication between her and the person making the crepes. On the bright side, service was quick, with two crepe stoves running at once.
驢打滾Fried chop rice cake is very yummy and chewy! At first, I thought it would be overly sweet, but to my surprise, the sweetness was just right! As for the Nutritions Purple Rice Pancake, I was a bit disappointed. Maybe it’s because I didn’t pay extra to add other toppings, so the flavor wasn’t as good but suppose this kind of pancake should be as simple as possible! There was too little scallion and cilantro and it wasn’t evenly distributed. But the pancake size was really big, finishing the whole thing was very satisfying!
I was surprised to find Xiang De Zhai to be one of more popular stalls at First Markham Place. They serve traditional Tianjin bites & pastries including the traditional jianbing pancakes and tofu pudding. Even the cashier has a snarky attitude like a street vendor. Freshly made, the crunchy jianbing is a sizeable bite that we got hot and spicy. The tofu pudding was savory with plenty of peanut butter sauce. Both tasted pretty delicious although the price for this duo was about the same as a huge platter nearby!
Ordered a beef pie which turned out to be more like a "beef taco." The beef inside was delicious and the crepe outside was just ok, with the thickness being its downfall. I wish it were thinner and fresher. I've also ordered jianbings here and they are freshly made (made in front of you, in fact). I don't speak any Chinese languages so the lady making the jiangbings often translates to the cashier for me. Not a huge deal, but if I have questions or want to do more customizations to my order, I can imagine it to more of an issue.
Terrible service but good food. I would have given a higher rating but the lady at the front didn’t want to take my order because I wasn’t speaking Chinese to her. I was so upset because she gave me a very rude gesture that turned me away. I won’t be going back! You’ll be ok if you speak MANDARIN ONLY.
